Rev Andrew Chalmers

The Chalmers Institute on Ferguson Street was a small library and reading room, built with money contributed by the Rev. Andrew Chalmers, an Unitarian minister of Westgate Chapel, Wakefield, who had been born and brought up in the Fetterangus area.

Andrew Chalmers wrote a number of books in his lifetime, including travel sketches as well as three volumes of devotional literature.
He also wrote hymns.
